In order to ensure the quality and freshness of chilled/frozen perishable food products by the time it reaches the consumer, the product is held in a cold environment from factory to home freezer. This process is known as the cold-chain. A number of blast freezers, holding freezers, distribution and logistics freezers are utilised for the same product in this cold chain. This cold-chain is typically held from -18°C to -30°C to ensure the perishable product is preserved. Our systems are capable of totally removing the presence of water and ice in blast freezers, cold storage as well as logistics facilities. The use of the desiccant method of removing moisture means we can dry air at as low a dew point as -60°C where traditional refrigeration cannot drop below 10°C without the necessity of frequent defrost cycles and reintroduction of moisture and heat with defrost cycles.

Applications

Cold storage and logistics, ice removal

Our systems are capable of totally removing the presence of water and ice in blast freezers, cold storage as well as logistics facilities. The use of the desiccant method of removing moisture means we can dry air as low as a dew point of -60°C where traditional refrigeration cannot drop below 10°C without the necessity of frequent & expensive defrosts cycles. Having a specialised cold storage facility/blast freezer utilising our DRYZONE™ technology enables a manufacturer or logistics operator to improve the efficiency of their cooling plants by as much as 40%.

Dry-storage temperature/moisture control

Our systems manage optimum climate conditions required to preserve hydroscopic materials and packaging, that would otherwise be moisture-damaged and not fit for customer use. Many consumer products are damaged if not kept in the correct cool and dry conditions. As an example: crushed and/or moist boxes, congealed/coagulated starches, sugars and salts can be avoided. This saves factories, logistics operators and retailers from expensive replacement costs for rejected materials associated with moisture damage.

Energy reduction in refrigeration systems through moisture removal

Our systems allow for the efficient drying and cooling of air within blast freezers, holding freezers, distribution and logistics freezers at a lower energy cost in comparison to other technologies. Furthermore, by minimising frost formation on equipment SCE systems are able to help reduce maintenance costs associated with the removal of this frost.
