Energy Recovery Systems

Repurposing Waste Energy for Cooling, Heating, and Air Quality Management

Most facilities exhaust conditioned air and waste heat into the atmosphere - energy you've already paid to generate. SCE®'s energy recovery systems capture this waste energy and repurpose it for heating, cooling, dehumidification, and ventilation, dramatically reducing reliance on grid power and cutting operational costs.

Our patented energy recovery technologies transform what others throw away into operational value, delivering measurable improvements in sustainability and energy efficiency across industrial and commercial applications.

Solutions

From air handling to energy recovery, our engineered systems reduce costs, improve productivity, and create long-term sustainability.

Solutions for Every Climate Challenge

At SCE®, we don't just supply equipment—we engineer complete climate control systems tailored to your specific challenges. Every solution integrates our patented technologies, proven methodologies, and global partnerships to deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, productivity, and sustainability.

Featured Energy Recovery Technologies

Our energy recovery solutions capture waste heat, exhaust air energy, and thermal losses, repurposing them to reduce energy consumption while maintaining optimal climate control.
FREECOOL® AHU

Advanced air handling units that utilize available waste energy sources to condition indoor spaces with the smallest energy footprint. Adiabatic technology reduces conventional cooling demand while improving air quality.

Seibu-Giken Econovent®

High-efficiency air-to-air heat exchangers that recover up to 80% of waste energy from exhaust air through full enthalpy transfer. Reuses exhaust energy for heating, cooling, and humidity control with proven reliability.

DefrostMODE®

Smart system technology that accelerates ice removal in blast freezers and gyros while dramatically lowering overall energy demand. Uses controlled dry air to reduce defrost time and eliminate moisture on restart.

Key Benefits

Energy recovery transforms operational waste into measurable cost savings and sustainability improvements:
Waste Energy Reuse

Capture and repurpose heat from exhaust air, refrigeration systems, and process equipment. Turn what would be wasted into heating, cooling, or dehumidification capacity.

Reduced Grid Dependence

Lower electricity consumption by recovering energy already in your facility. Reduce peak demand charges and minimise reliance on external power sources during high-cost periods.

Lower Long-Term Operating Costs

Energy recovery delivers ongoing savings that compound over years of operation. Reduced energy bills, smaller HVAC equipment requirements, and extended equipment lifespan through reduced operational hours.

Why Energy-Recovery Matters

The Energy You're Throwing Away:

Every time you exhaust conditioned air, discharge waste heat from refrigeration, or vent process heat, you're discarding energy you've already paid to generate. Conventional HVAC systems work harder to replace this lost energy, consuming more electricity and creating unnecessary operational costs.

SCE®'s energy recovery approach captures value by:

  • Transferring heat and moisture from exhaust to supply air streams (up to 80% recovery)
  • Repurposing refrigeration waste heat for heating or dehumidification
  • Using process waste heat to pre-condition incoming air
  • Accelerating defrost cycles while recovering thermal energy
  • Reducing HVAC equipment sizing requirements through recovered capacity

The result: 40-80% reduction in HVAC energy consumption while maintaining or improving indoor air quality and climate control performance.

Applications

SCE® heating and cooling systems serve diverse environments where energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and reliable performance are critical:
Food Production & Processing

Recover waste heat from refrigeration systems for space heating or dehumidification. Use DefrostMODE® in blast freezers to reduce defrost energy while accelerating production cycles.

Industrial Manufacturing

Repurpose process heat and exhaust energy to pre-condition make-up air. Reduce HVAC loads in facilities with high ventilation requirements and thermal processes.

Power & Energy Utilities

Capture waste heat from generation processes for facility heating or industrial applications. Improve overall facility efficiency while reducing auxiliary power consumption.

Warehousing & Logistics

Recover energy from refrigerated areas to heat adjacent spaces or pre-condition incoming air. Balance thermal loads across facility zones for optimal energy use.

Commercial Buildings

Reduce HVAC costs in offices, retail, and public spaces through heat recovery from exhaust air. Maintain superior indoor air quality while cutting energy consumption.

Cold Storage Facilities

Use energy recovery to reduce the temperature differential HVAC systems must overcome. Capture waste heat from refrigeration for defrost cycles or adjacent space heating.

How Energy Recovery Works

Air-to-Air Heat Exchange

Seibu-Giken Econovent® systems use rotating heat exchanger wheels to transfer both sensible heat (temperature) and latent heat (moisture) between exhaust and supply air streams. As warm exhaust air passes through, it heats the wheel. The heated wheel rotates into the supply air stream, warming incoming cold air before it reaches HVAC equipment.

Waste Heat Recovery

FREECOOL® and other systems capture waste heat from refrigeration condensers, process equipment, or thermal losses—repurposing this energy for space heating, dehumidification regeneration, or air pre-conditioning. Energy that would be rejected to the atmosphere becomes operational capacity.

Intelligent Defrost Optimisation

DefrostMODE® reduces the energy required for freezer defrost cycles by using forced dry air to accelerate ice removal. The system also ensures freezers restart completely dry, maximising freezing efficiency and minimising the next ice accumulation cycle.

Energy-Recovery Integration

Energy-Recovery Integration

Energy recovery delivers the greatest benefits when integrated into complete climate control systems rather than added as isolated components.

SCE® integrates energy recovery with:

  • Air handling units combine ventilation, heating, cooling, and recovery
  • Dehumidification systems using waste heat for desiccant regeneration
  • HVAC controls that optimise recovery based on ambient conditions and facility loads
  • Building management systems for automated performance monitoring
  • Remote monitoring to track energy savings and predict maintenance needs

Integrated systems respond dynamically to conditions, automatically maximising energy recovery when beneficial and adjusting when direct heating or cooling is more efficient.

The SCE® Engineering Difference
